A premise of this book is that much of it is a transcription of an oral conversation and thus it is written in a Southern U.S. vernacular. Keeping that fact in mind there remains a potential error and one observation.

The observation regards two review quotations. On the back page the following is printed [italics mine] --
"A gift to readers....The storyteller's memory, eye for detail, and ear for dialogue are so compelling that in private conversation one would be leaning toward her, so as to catch every word." - Washington Post Book World

On the book's third page the following is printed [italics mine] --
"A small literary event worthy of ntice.... The story is related in a voice so authentic and urgent that it seems to enter the mind aurally rather than visually. The storyteller's memory, eye for detail, and ear for dialogue are compelling." - Houston Post

41It was coming time for us to go to school. We thought Daddy was going to come to get us, but he didn't. He called Aunt Beezy and told her that he want us to stay down there and got to school.go [italics mine]
